On March 28, a 36-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by three female staffers at a departmental store in Burari, North Delhi, after being wrongfully accused of stealing a packet of cashews. The woman, who works at a mall, had stopped to buy groceries around 9:30 PM. According to her complaint, the staffers confronted her while she was bagging her purchases, accused her of theft, and physically assaulted her. They allegedly snatched her mobile phone and dragged her into a warehouse where they continued to beat her until she fainted. Her husband, unable to reach her by phone for an hour, found her at the store in distress and took her to the hospital. The victim received initial treatment at Burari government hospital and was later referred to Lok Nayak Hospital. On March 30, she filed a police report, leading to a case being registered under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are currently investigating the matter.
