The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has implemented a new alert system for prepaid smart meter users, sending SMS notifications when their balance reaches 30%, 20%, and 10%. This initiative is designed to help consumers recharge their meters in time and avoid unexpected power outages. Additionally, users will receive three units of electricity even if their balance goes negative before disconnection. UPPCL emphasizes that these alerts are part of a broader modernization effort aimed at improving customer service and transparency. The utility is also addressing previous complaints regarding delayed reconnections after recharges, which were attributed to communication issues among its Meter Management System (MDM), Head End System (HES), and Revenue Management System (RMS). UPPCL is moving forward with an ambitious plan to install 2.73 crore prepaid smart meters across the state, with around 75 lakh meters designated for the Madhyanchal region alone.
