The Kerala State Election Commission has launched an investigation into allegations of large-scale fabrication of fake Aadhaar cards in Payyannur, located in Kannur district, to enable bogus voting. Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar has requested an urgent report from Kannur District Collector Arun K. Vijayan regarding these claims. The complaint, submitted by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), also highlights concerns about the inclusion of duplicate votes in the Payyannur and Kalliyasseri Assembly constituencies. The issue gained momentum when K.C. Venugopal, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, publicly accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of conducting this operation from their local office. Venugopal stated that evidence supporting these claims exists and will be presented. Following these serious allegations, the KPCC has formally approached the Election Commission, prompting the Chief Electoral Officer's current actions.
