At the 6th Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Science Congress held in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called for a transformative approach in agriculture, shifting the focus from mere production to profitability. He stressed that the prosperity of farmers is crucial for India's goal of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation. Adityanath outlined a roadmap that combines technology, traditional practices, and policy reforms to modernize the agricultural sector. He noted that Uttar Pradesh, which houses 16-17% of India's population yet only 11% of its cultivable land, contributes approximately 21% of the country's food grain production. The state's agricultural growth rate has increased from 8% to nearly 18%. The Chief Minister advocated for the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and biotechnology to enhance crop forecasting and irrigation efficiency, while promoting natural farming to reduce costs and preserve soil health. He also highlighted reforms in the sugarcane sector, where payments to farmers have been expedited significantly. The congress aims to foster collaboration among farmers, scientists, and government officials to achieve actionable results in agricultural practices.
