Milk producers in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing a historic financial boost, with the state milk federation providing an average benefit of ₹34.18 crore per month. This increase is attributed to the procurement of approximately 2.70 lakh litres of milk daily, a significant rise from the previous average of 1.57 lakh litres. The government has consistently raised milk procurement prices, now set at ₹61 per litre for cow milk and ₹71 for buffalo milk in the 2026-27 budget. Over the past three years, the number of village dairy societies has surged from 27,498 to 39,790, while functional dairy cooperative societies increased from 583 to 758. The government is also establishing a new milk union in Kangra district to improve collection and processing. Initiatives to train farmers in clean milk production and install automatic collection units further support transparency and fair pricing. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the government's commitment to empowering farmers and rural youth as central to the state's economic growth.
