The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project, which will create a 41-km North-South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod at a cost of ₹13,037.66 crore (approximately $1.57 billion USD). This project, executed by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), aims to enhance public transport in Jaipur, which is becoming a major hub for tourism and education. The corridor will feature 36 stations, including 34 elevated and 2 underground, connecting key areas and easing access to the airport. It is projected to reduce an estimated 2.4 lakh vehicles by 2055, thus alleviating traffic congestion.
In addition, the Cabinet approved two hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh: the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project and the 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project. The Kamala project, costing ₹26,070 crore (approximately $3.14 billion USD), is expected to generate 6,870 million units of renewable energy annually, while the Kalai-II project will produce about 4,853 million units. Both projects are anticipated to enhance energy security and support infrastructure development in the region.
