Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks regarding the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, suggesting they are more about electoral strategy than genuine statesmanship. Modi's promise that southern states with stabilized populations would not lose seats was seen by Siddaramaiah as politically convenient, especially in light of upcoming elections in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that while all states may see an increase in Lok Sabha seats, the proposed changes disproportionately benefit BJP-dominated states. For example, Uttar Pradesh could see its representation rise from 80 to 120 seats, while southern states like Karnataka would only increase from 28 to 42 seats. Siddaramaiah warned that this could widen the gap between states, with the difference in seats between Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka growing from 52 to 78 seats. He asserted that the people of Karnataka deserve fairness in representation and vowed to oppose any attempts to diminish their political voice.
