Brooklyn, New York, has announced a significant investment of $9.25 million to create sensory rooms in all elementary schools within District 75, which caters to students with disabilities such as autism and cognitive delays. The initiative will begin with 18 schools and aims to provide customized sensory environments that address individual student needs. These rooms are equipped with soft lighting, visual displays, and sensory materials to assist students in regulating their emotions and improving focus. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso emphasized the importance of these rooms, stating they are crucial for helping students engage in their learning. District 75 Superintendent Keisha McCoy echoed this sentiment, highlighting that sensory supports are essential rather than optional.
