Bengaluru's Namma Metro, despite its expansion across three operational corridors, is facing challenges in increasing daily ridership, which remains stagnant at around 10 lakh. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited aims for a target of 15 lakh passengers daily, but current figures indicate an average of only 9 to 10 lakh. The highest recorded ridership was 10.73 lakh on March 18, attributed to special events. A significant constraint is the shortage of trains, with only 57 operating on the Purple and Green Lines and just eight on the Yellow Line, leading to overcrowding during peak hours. Additionally, last-mile connectivity remains a concern, with many commuters struggling to access metro stations conveniently. Experts suggest that dedicated solutions, such as e-bike services, could enhance accessibility. The upcoming Pink Line, expected to be operational by mid-year, could add 80,000 to 90,000 passengers initially, with projections of reaching 1.5 lakh in the long term. Overall, ridership is expected to exceed 12 lakh with the anticipated opening of the Blue Line by December.
