India's technology sector has commenced the fiscal year 2027 with a cautious outlook, as active job openings decreased to 110,000 in April 2026, down 8% from March. Entry-level positions, which target candidates with up to two years of experience, remain at 15,000, unchanged for two months but down nearly 11% compared to the previous year. This stagnation has raised concerns among fresh graduates, as these roles now represent only 14% of total demand. Mid-senior professionals continue to dominate the market, making up 54% of job openings. The report from Xpheno indicates that this trend is part of a broader decline, with the tech sector's contribution to overall talent demand slipping below 50% for the first time since December 2025. The IT services sector, the largest employer of tech talent in India, has seen a 7% decrease in openings, totaling 43,000. Additionally, global capability centers (GCCs) experienced a more significant 21% month-on-month drop in openings. Despite these challenges, April 2026's demand is still 7% higher than in April 2025, indicating that the market has not completely reversed.

The decline in job openings, particularly for fresh graduates, could lead to increased competition for entry-level positions, making it harder for new job seekers to find employment.
