On April 8, a nine-year-old boy named Shreyansh Kumar drowned in an uncovered water tank at a construction site in Govindpuri, southeast Delhi. The incident occurred around 1 PM when Shreyansh, a Class 4 student, was playing with friends after school. His sister, who had accompanied him to school, reported that he had gone to play nearby. The boy fell into a seven-foot-deep tank due to poor lighting conditions. His friends raised the alarm, and his father attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after pulling him out, but he was declared dead at Batra Hospital. The police have registered a case against the site owner under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, citing negligence. The owner was arrested on April 9, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
