Hindustan Copper Ltd, a state-owned enterprise in India, is actively pursuing Navratna status, which would grant it increased financial and operational autonomy. Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Kumar Singh highlighted this goal as a reflection of the company's improved performance and strategic growth. Currently, Hindustan Copper operates the only vertically integrated refined copper facility in India, covering all aspects from exploration to casting. The company aims to boost its mining capacity from 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 12.2 MTPA by 2030. Achieving Navratna status would allow Hindustan Copper to invest up to ₹1,000 crore ($120 million USD) in projects without requiring government approval, enhancing its operational flexibility. The company is also focusing on digitalisation, operational efficiency, and has formed a strategic partnership with Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO), the largest copper producer globally, to expand its international footprint.
