At a regional agriculture conference in Jaipur, Indian Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the need for state-specific agricultural roadmaps tailored to local soil, water, and climate conditions. This approach comes in response to significant crop losses due to recent unseasonal rains affecting large areas in North and Central India. Chouhan announced that a unified Farmer ID system would be implemented within three months, linking farmers to essential resources such as fertilisers, seeds, and crop insurance. This system aims to ensure transparent delivery of benefits and reduce issues like black marketing. The government is also focusing on oilseed self-sufficiency, having recorded an output of 43 million tonnes in 2024-25, up from 40 million tonnes the previous year. To support this initiative, ₹10,103 crore has been allocated to expand the cultivation area from 29 million hectares to 33 million hectares, with productivity targets set to rise to 2,112 kg per hectare.
