Denis Manturov, Russia's first deputy prime minister, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in critical areas such as energy and fertilizers. Modi highlighted the importance of ongoing efforts to implement the outcomes of the India-Russia Summit from December 2022, during President Vladimir Putin's visit. Jaishankar noted that the discussions also covered trade, industry, connectivity, and mobility, while exploring opportunities in technology and critical minerals. The backdrop of these talks includes India's increasing reliance on Russian energy supplies following a U.S. waiver on sanctions, which allows continued imports amidst disruptions from conflicts in West Asia. Additionally, India is set to acquire five more S-400 air defence systems from Russia, building on a previous deal despite U.S. sanctions concerns. The visit follows recent consultations between Indian and Russian foreign officials to review bilateral ties.
