Venu Srinivasan has stepped down from his position at the Bai Hirabai Charitable Trust, a smaller entity within Tata Trusts, following objections about his eligibility raised by former trustee Mehli Mistry. Mistry's concerns have now escalated into a legal matter, as he filed an affidavit with the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner seeking an investigation into alleged irregularities associated with the trust. He argues that both Srinivasan and another trustee, Vijay Singh, are ineligible under the trust’s governing rules. The dispute is linked to the Bai Hirabai Jamsetji Tata Navsari Charitable Institution, which operates under the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. The trust deed, established in 1923, restricts trusteeship to members of the Zoroastrian community. Mistry claims that any appointments made in violation of these rules could invalidate decisions made by those trustees, raising concerns about maladministration and accountability within the trust, which oversees properties in Mumbai and Navsari, including a fire temple and educational facilities for the Parsi community.
