A coalition of Meitei civil society and academic organizations based in Delhi has called for the arrest of those responsible for a bomb attack that killed two young children, Oinam Tomthin, 5, and his infant sister Oinam Yaisana, 5 months, at their home in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, Manipur, on April 7. The groups, including the Meitei Heritage Society and Delhi Manipur Society, allege that Kuki militants orchestrated the attack. Following the incident, police arrested three suspected members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) but have not confirmed their connection to the bombing. The organizations are demanding immediate action against the perpetrators and have highlighted previous violent incidents attributed to Kuki militants, including the Jiribam killings in November 2024. They argue that peace negotiations cannot succeed while Kuki insurgents remain armed and have criticized the current dialogue process as ineffective. Since the onset of ethnic violence in May 2023, over 260 lives have been lost, and 50,000 people have been displaced in the region.
