A recent report indicates that a crypto scam network allegedly connected to Iran is targeting American users on dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble. The scammers engage victims over several days or weeks, creating a false sense of trust before introducing fake cryptocurrency investment opportunities. Bezalel Eithan Raviv, a Tel Aviv-based expert, highlighted that such scams, known as “pig butchering,” rely on prolonged emotional manipulation, ultimately leading victims to transfer funds to untraceable platforms. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has noted that investment scams now represent the largest share of reported financial losses, with cryptocurrency fraud on the rise. Raviv cautioned that these tactics are not only financially damaging but could also contribute to funding geopolitical conflicts, as unsuspecting individuals may inadvertently support hostile state agendas. The total amount scammed globally could reach nearly $1 trillion, emphasizing the scale of this cyber threat.
