During a recent address at the Ran Samvad forum in Bengaluru, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted Operation Sindoor as a significant demonstration of India's progression towards 'domain jointness' in military operations. He noted that the operation, which was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 Indian tourists, exemplifies the need for integration across various military domains. General Dwivedi explained that modern warfare is no longer limited by geographical boundaries and is defined by continuous interaction among the six military domains: land, air, maritime, cyber, space, and cognitive. He emphasized that the battlefield has transformed into a layered, three-dimensional construct, requiring commanders to develop cross-domain situational awareness. Operation Sindoor involved a collaborative effort between ground intelligence, cyber operations, and electronic warfare, showcasing the operational significance of integration among the armed forces. General Dwivedi concluded that such mutually enabling actions are essential for effective multi-domain operations (MDO).
