In March 2026, India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded an unprecedented ₹29.53 lakh crore in transaction value, processing 22.64 billion transactions. This represents a 24% increase in transaction volumes and a 19% rise in values compared to the previous year. On average, UPI handled 730 million transactions daily, with average daily transaction values reaching ₹95,243 crore. The surge in digital transactions is attributed to the increasing adoption of digital payments across both urban and rural areas. Anand Kumar Bajaj, Founder and CEO of PayNearby, noted that this growth indicates a deeper integration of real-time payments into everyday commerce, especially in smaller towns. Meanwhile, Akash Sinha, Co-founder and CEO of Cashfree Payments, highlighted the importance of maintaining robust security measures as UPI continues to scale, citing the Reserve Bank of India's efforts to enhance authentication norms as vital for sustaining user trust in the payment ecosystem.
