Mumbai's innovative pod taxi project, launched with the bhoomipujan ceremony, marks a significant step towards modernizing urban transport in the city. The Automated Rapid Transit System (ARTS) will initially cover a 3.36 km route between Kurla and Bandra East, featuring eight strategically located stations. Designed to ease congestion in the busy Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), the system will eventually expand to 22 stations over 8.85 km by 2031. Each pod, capable of carrying up to six passengers, will operate at speeds of 40 km/h, arriving every 15 seconds. The project, costing ₹1,016 crore (approximately $122 million USD), is being developed by Sai Green Mobility under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, without direct government subsidies. The fare is projected at ₹21 per km, with a 4% annual escalation, aiming to compete with traditional transport options. The pod taxi network will integrate with existing metro lines, enhancing connectivity for over 1.09 lakh daily commuters by 2031.
