Aishwarya Sakhuja, a 41-year-old actor living with type 1 diabetes, recently shared her experiences regarding the difficulties diabetics face at night, particularly due to erratic glucose levels. In her Instagram post, she noted that when glucose levels are unstable, sleep often suffers due to continuous monitoring and alerts from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices. To manage these challenges, Sakhuja suggested several practices, including balancing meals with carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats, which can help slow glucose absorption. She also advised maintaining consistent meal timings and engaging in light physical activity, such as walking for 10-15 minutes after meals, to enhance insulin sensitivity. Additionally, hydration and adhering to a regular sleep schedule were highlighted as vital components for better glucose control. Dr. Vijay Negalur, a diabetology expert at KIMS Hospitals in Thane, supported Sakhuja's insights, emphasizing that sleep disruption is common among diabetics and can exacerbate glucose control issues. He reiterated the importance of meal composition and the impact of hydration and sleep on managing diabetes effectively.
