The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, alleging that All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan engaged in censorship by deleting significant portions of its speech. The speech, submitted on March 29, criticized the policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam, highlighting issues such as the corporate-communal nexus and the government's failure to address basic public concerns. CPI(M) secretary Suprakash Talukdar stated that the speech adhered to the Election Commission of India's guidelines, containing no prohibited content or incitement. The deletions, according to the party, distorted their political message and represented an attempt to suppress dissent. CPI(M) condemned this action as indicative of a dangerous authoritarian trend in both state and central governance, particularly during election periods. Additionally, on March 31, Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Congress, wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner regarding police inaction following an assault on Congress candidate Sunil Kumar Chhetri in the Naduar Assembly constituency on March 30.
