In Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a gang posing as Income Tax officials has been exposed following complaints from local shopkeepers about extortion attempts. The incidents primarily occurred in the Shadiyabad market, where traders grew suspicious of the gang's repeated raids. Police confirmed the arrest of three gang members during one such attempt, while the alleged mastermind, Sars Kumar Gupta, managed to escape. Shopkeepers had been facing harassment and pressure to pay large sums of money during fake inspections. Their concerns were brought to the attention of Ikramul Haq, president of the Industrial Trade Board, prompting a heightened alert among traders. After the police were informed, three members were detained, and a formal complaint was filed at the Shadiyabad police station demanding a thorough investigation. The police are now questioning the arrested individuals to uncover the full extent of the gang's operations.
