On Thursday, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) dismissed a petition challenging the Musi rejuvenation and riverfront development project in Hyderabad, Telangana. The petition was filed by Patlola Kartik Reddy, a leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), who alleged that construction was underway without valid environmental clearance. However, the NGT found that the issues raised did not warrant intervention, as they were already being addressed through ongoing environmental assessment processes. The Telangana government’s additional advocate general, Tera Rajinikanth Reddy, confirmed that the environmental clearance process was in progress and argued that the petition was politically motivated. The Musi rejuvenation project aims to transform Hyderabad’s primary waterway, including the establishment of advanced sewage treatment systems, flood mitigation measures, and the development of public spaces such as promenades and parks.
