India and Egypt are bolstering their strategic partnership amid escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. This partnership, officially upgraded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit in June 2023, aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in defense, trade, and counter-terrorism. Egypt, with its significant military presence and strategic location, plays a crucial role in stabilizing the region. The two nations share common interests, including energy security and the welfare of their respective diasporas in Gulf states. Over 55 Indian companies have invested more than $4 billion USD in Egypt, contributing to local employment and exports. Major investments include a $1.6 billion USD project by TCI Sanmar and a $600 million USD fertilizer plant by INDORAMA in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Additionally, Indian companies are committing to renewable energy projects, with plans to invest $12 billion USD in green hydrogen production. The growing defense relations include a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation signed during Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's visit in 2022, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations.
