Residents of Greater Noida West, Uttar Pradesh, are intensifying their protests for metro connectivity, planning a mass demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on April 26. Over 3.5 lakh residents from more than 50 housing societies convened to express their frustrations over a decade-long delay in the project. The protest, organized by the Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), aims to pressure government officials to take action after years of unmet promises. Abhishek Kumar, president of NEFOWA, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, 'We have been waiting for 10 years for this essential service.' Recent developments have further aggravated the situation, as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro extension was rejected by the central government for the second time on April 3. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has been instructed to prepare a new DPR, leading to additional delays in a project that has already been scaled down to a 7.5-km corridor with 5 stations. Residents are increasingly frustrated with worsening traffic congestion and long commute times, demanding immediate action from authorities.
