Minimum wages for unskilled workers in Noida and Ghaziabad, both located in Uttar Pradesh, have seen a modest increase of 42.6% over the past decade, according to a report by The Times of India. In stark contrast, the minimum wage in Delhi surged by nearly 90%, reaching Rs 18,456 per month. This disparity has significant implications for real earnings, as the wage growth in Noida and Ghaziabad has not kept pace with inflation, which has risen by 51.3% since 2016. Consequently, workers in these areas are experiencing a decline in their real income levels. Haryana also faced similar issues until a recent wage revision, where minimum wages increased from Rs 8,070 to Rs 11,274 per month, reflecting a 40% rise, but still lagging behind inflation rates of 52.7% in Gurgaon. The report highlights that Delhi's comparatively lower inflation rate of 43.7% has further enhanced the real wage growth for its workers, making it the leading region in the National Capital Region (NCR) for minimum wages.
