The Haryana council of ministers, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has approved an amendment to the 'Agniveer Policy-2024', increasing the horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in government jobs from 10% to 20%. This policy targets positions such as forest guard, mining guard, and prison warder, aiming to facilitate the transition of former soldiers into civilian roles after their service under the Agnipath scheme initiated by the central government in mid-2022. The first batch of Agniveers is expected to complete their four-year term in July 2026, with 2,893 Agniveers recruited from Haryana in 2023-24 and 2,227 in 2022-23.
In addition to the increased reservation, the Haryana government has introduced a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit for Group-B and C posts, extending to five years for the first batch of Agniveers. The policy also includes a 5% horizontal reservation in civil Group-C posts and 1% in Group-B posts for those with specialized skills. Furthermore, industries hiring Agniveers at a monthly salary exceeding ₹30,000 will receive an annual subsidy of ₹60,000. The government has also prioritized arms licenses for Agniveers and offers interest-free loans of ₹5 lakh for business ventures. This comprehensive policy is set to be fully implemented by 2026-27, aligning with the completion of service for the first batch of Agniveers.
