The Enforcement Directorate has reported the seizure of illicit cash, drugs, and liquor worth over ₹650 crore (approximately $78 million USD) across four Indian states and Puducherry as part of a crackdown on illegal electoral inducements ahead of assembly elections. West Bengal has the highest reported seizures at ₹319 crore, followed by Tamil Nadu at ₹170 crore. The Election Commission (EC) has activated over 5,173 flying squads and 5,200 static surveillance teams to monitor and respond to complaints within 100 minutes. Elections in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry are scheduled for April 9, while West Bengal's elections will occur in two phases on April 23 and 29. The EC aims to curb the influence of black money and contraband in the electoral process, utilizing the Electronic Seizure Management System (ESMS) for real-time monitoring since February 26.
