The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its fifth list of candidates for the West Bengal Assembly elections, featuring five nominees including Saurav Sikdar, the nephew of senior leader and former Union minister Tapan Sikdar. Other candidates include Taraknath Chatterjee for Krishnanagar Uttar, Anupam Biswas for Kalyani, Anindya Raju Banerjee for Madhyamgram, and Rudraprasad Banerjee for Uluberia Purba. Anindya Raju Banerjee had previously contested in the 2021 elections but had been inactive until recently. The BJP has faced protests from party workers, prompting changes in candidates for three constituencies: Sunil Maharaj has been replaced by Shankar Sikdar in Behala Purba, Kaushik Sidharth replaces Narayan Chandra Mondal in Basirhat Uttar, and Abhijit Sardar has been nominated for Bishnupur (SC). In total, the BJP has announced 292 candidates for the 294 seats in the state. Voting will occur in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
