Anant Ambani (Executive Director of Reliance Industries) inaugurated Vantara University in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking a significant step towards advancing global wildlife conservation and veterinary sciences. The university is touted as the world's first dedicated institution for wildlife sciences, focusing on integrated research, training, and conservation efforts. Ambani emphasized that this initiative represents a 1,000-year vision for the planet, shifting the focus from infrastructure-led conservation to developing talent and knowledge. With a pressing global shortage of specialized professionals in wildlife health and conservation, Vantara University aims to fill these gaps by offering undergraduate, postgraduate, fellowship, and specialized programs in areas such as wildlife medicine, genetics, and conservation policy. The university will leverage Vantara's existing wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facilities for practical training, fostering a skilled workforce to address rising ecological challenges, including biodiversity loss and zoonotic diseases. Ambani also highlighted the importance of incorporating India's traditional knowledge systems into the curriculum, aiming to establish Vantara University as a global hub for wildlife sciences through international collaborations.
