The University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW–Madison) has been recognized as the top producer of Peace Corps volunteers for 2026, reflecting its strong commitment to global engagement. With 3,466 alumni having served since the organization’s inception in 1961, UW–Madison holds the position of the second all-time volunteer-producing institution. From October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, 63 students from the university volunteered in 34 countries, including Benin, North Macedonia, and the Dominican Republic. Frances Vavrus, vice provost and dean of the International Division, emphasized the university's vibrant international ecosystem, which inspires students to connect with global communities. Current volunteers, such as Lincoln Sankovitz and Amanda Grace Chastan, shared their transformative experiences in their respective host countries, contributing to projects in sustainable agriculture and community economic development. The Peace Corps, celebrating its 65th anniversary, aims to recruit 8,000 volunteers by 2030 to continue promoting world peace and friendship through volunteer service.
