India and Mauritius have formalized agreements to implement a $680 million economic assistance package aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam discussed various areas of collaboration, including energy security, in light of disruptions from the conflict in West Asia. The package comprises $25 million in budgetary support and multiple projects funded through a combination of grants and loans. Jaishankar emphasized India's commitment to infrastructure, health, and security development in Mauritius. Notably, a defense attaché will be stationed in Mauritius to bolster security ties. The leaders inaugurated 11 community development projects in sectors such as energy and sports, and launched the “Karmayogi portal” to improve governance. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed to enhance cooperation in higher education. Ramgoolam expressed appreciation for India's consistent support, especially during critical times.
