Asha Bhosle, the iconic Indian playback singer, passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai, leaving behind a legacy of musical innovation. Known for her remarkable vocal range, Bhosle often spoke about her desire to carve out her own identity in the music industry, distinct from her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar. At the CNN News18 Rising India-She Shakti conclave in 2023, she expressed that both sisters had similar voices, which could have limited her opportunities if she had chosen to imitate Lata. Instead, she embraced diverse musical influences, including Spanish and Italian songs, to create a unique sound that resonated with audiences. Bhosle's passing was confirmed by Dr. Pratit Samdani, who noted that she succumbed to multi-organ failure after being admitted for a chest infection. Her son, Anand Bhosle, announced that fans could pay their last respects at her residence before her final rites, scheduled for 4 pm on Monday at Shivaji Park.
