New Chandigarh, a residential township in the foothills of the Shivalik Hills, is emerging as a creative haven for young artists from the Chandigarh College of Art. This area, developed on the old Mullanpur fields, now hosts sculptors like Tari and Simarjeet Sekha, who have established a studio named 'Blunt.' The studio serves as a space for artistic collaboration and expression, where they create sculptures and share ideas. Tari, who plays the didgeridoo, and Sekha, who specializes in stone sculptures, highlight the importance of personal journeys in their art. Additionally, tattoo artist Reetika Verma brings attention to the cultural significance of tattoos, using her art to explore themes of identity and social struggle. Her work reflects the stories of marginalized communities, such as the Ram Nami Tribe, who use tattoos as a form of resistance. Together, these artists are redefining the artistic landscape of New Chandigarh, creating a vibrant community that celebrates creativity and cultural narratives.
