Mofakkerul Islam, an AIMIM leader, was arrested by West Bengal police at Bagdogra Airport while attempting to flee the state following protests in Malda. The protests erupted over accusations of voter list removals during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, leading to a blockade of seven judicial officers for more than nine hours. The situation escalated when protesters surrounded the Kaliachak 2 Block Development Office, demanding access to the officers. After a lengthy standoff, security personnel intervened to rescue the officials. The Election Commission has since transferred the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) due to concerns over law and order management, with 18 arrests made, including that of an All India Secular Front (AISF) candidate. The unrest has raised significant questions about electoral integrity just days before the high-stakes elections in West Bengal.
