In the financial year 2025-26, Northern Coalfields (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, reported a 1.08% increase in coal production, totaling 140.5 million tonnes. This achievement is crucial for supporting India's energy security amid increasing power demand. The company successfully met its annual production targets, with all ten of its mechanized opencast mines contributing to this output. During the same period, NCL dispatched 137.08 million tonnes of coal, with 86% directed to thermal power plants. The company emphasized its commitment to sustainability, noting that 85% of coal was transported using environmentally friendly methods, including 64.29 million tonnes via Indian Railways. The Jayant project led production with 30 million tonnes, while Dudhichua and Nigahi projects each produced 25 million tonnes. NCL's operational efficiency and coordinated efforts across projects were key to its success.
