Sarma claimed that Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, holds multiple passports and properties abroad, including in the USA and Dubai. Sarma stated that these claims are not only baseless but also a punishable offense under the law. He expressed concern that such tactics are attempts to influence the upcoming elections in Assam. Sarma mentioned that his wife has filed a complaint against Khera, asserting that the allegations are a crime against the nation. Congress, on the other hand, has demanded the Election Commission to disqualify Sarma's nomination based on his wife's alleged undeclared foreign assets. Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress leader, challenged Sarma to clarify the allegations and welcome an investigation if he has nothing to hide.
