The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the 'Dr B R Ambedkar Murti Vikas Yojana', a ₹403-crore initiative aimed at beautifying and maintaining statues of B.R. Ambedkar and other prominent social reformers across all 403 Assembly constituencies. Each constituency will receive ₹1 crore to develop up to 10 statues as part of the scheme. This announcement follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's plan to install protective umbrellas over these statues, enhancing their visibility and security. The initiative is scheduled for promotion on April 14, coinciding with Ambedkar Jayanti, where local representatives will inform the public about the scheme and its objectives. The beautification efforts will include the installation of canopies, boundary walls, greenery, and lighting arrangements. Officials noted that the project aims to honor figures who contributed to social justice while improving public spaces. Minister Asim Arun emphasized that the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to respect social justice icons, contrasting it with the previous Samajwadi Party government's actions, which he claims disrespected these figures. The BJP is framing this initiative as part of a broader political strategy to reinforce its commitment to honoring Dalit icons and social justice.
