The tournament, which begins on April 7, 2026, will see Gukesh competing against renowned grandmasters such as Pentala Harikrishna, Leinier Dominguez, and Nihal Sarin. The event is organized as a FIDE-rated Swiss system competition, consisting of nine rounds with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment. Gukesh's participation comes after he expressed the need to reduce his competitive intensity in light of recent performances.
