Sukhbir Singh Badal (president of the Shiromani Akali Dal) announced ambitious plans for the Kandi region of Punjab during a gathering on Thursday, despite inclement weather. He proposed a special industrial package that includes power and tax subsidies to stimulate industrial growth. Additionally, Badal emphasized the need for improved connectivity through highway corridors linking Pathankot to Chandigarh and Amritsar to Anandpur Sahib. He criticized the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for a significant decline in law and order, alleging collusion with criminal elements and widespread extortion. Badal also claimed that the AAP's reported investments were exaggerated, citing data from the Right to Information (RTI) Act. His broader vision includes restoring investor confidence, enforcing strict law and order, and ensuring that 75 percent of jobs in industries go to Punjabis. Furthermore, he announced plans for a World Skill University to train one lakh youth annually and the establishment of medical and veterinary colleges in every district. Other welfare measures proposed include interest-free loans of up to ₹10 lakh (approximately $12,000 USD) for youth, an increase in old-age pensions to ₹3,100 per month, and enhanced Shagun assistance of ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD).
