During the 18th Civil Services Day celebrations, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasized the government's commitment to addressing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which constitute 60% of deaths in India. He highlighted the shift in healthcare strategy from preventive to curative care, initiated with a holistic health policy in 2017. The National Programme for Prevention and Control of NCDs focuses on strengthening infrastructure, early diagnosis, health promotion, and timely referrals. Notably, the government has established over 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, serving as primary health contact points for 1.45 billion people. Screening efforts have reached 41.5 crore individuals for hypertension, with 7.1 crore diagnosed, and 5.7 crore notified. Additionally, 41.3 crore people have been screened for diabetes, revealing 4.7 crore cases, while 2.3 lakh individuals have been detected with oral cancer out of 35.3 crore screened. The budget includes provisions for day care cancer centers in every district, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility and outcomes.
