The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has received security clearance for its new re-evaluation portal, following a significant cyberattack that targeted the previous system. On June 3, the portal was hit by a Denial-of-Service attack involving approximately 3.8 million malicious packets, aiming to disrupt the re-evaluation process. In response, the CBSE opted to enhance security by discontinuing the use of COEMPT Eduteck Pvt Ltd for scanning answer sheets. The new portal incorporates several security improvements to protect sensitive data, addressing vulnerabilities identified in the earlier system. Teams from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras were brought in to fortify the platform, with IIT Kanpur's cybersecurity team dedicating over ten days to secure the CBSE registration and OSM re-evaluation portals. As of June 4, the CBSE had received a total of 70,433 applications through its grievance redressal mechanism, including 63,119 applications for re-evaluation. All answer-sheet data has now been secured on CBSE servers, ensuring better control over examination-related information.
