Muthukrishnan Dhandapani, a certified financial planner and mutual fund distributor based in Chennai, has gained attention for managing the investment portfolio of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Dhandapani began his career in finance at a stockbroking firm linked to the Madras Stock Exchange and later launched his mutual fund distribution business in 2007 after obtaining his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification. In 2013, a client associated with Gandhi recommended Dhandapani to manage his mutual funds, and they have maintained a professional relationship since. Despite his success, Dhandapani made the unconventional decision to stop taking new clients in 2017, prioritizing his existing clientele over potential earnings. He has expressed that this decision cost him the chance to become India's largest individual mutual fund distributor. Recently, he exited his investment in ITC to increase his holdings in Bajaj Finance, reflecting a strategic shift in his portfolio. Dhandapani has also been vocal about his political views, having been a supporter of the BJP, yet he emphasizes the respectful nature of his interactions with Gandhi, who he claims has never mixed their professional relationship with politics.
