The Sioux Falls Jefferson softball team has made an impressive start to the 2026 season, currently holding a 5-0 record as they defend their Class AA state title. The Cavaliers showcased their strength with two decisive wins on April 17, defeating Eden Prairie, Minnesota, 5-2, and St. Louis Park, Minnesota, 16-0. The team's pitching duo, Tya Devericks and Makenzie Bierman, has been exceptional, allowing only five runs in five games, while the offense has scored a remarkable 53 runs. Notably, Macy Bryant achieved a rare feat by hitting for the cycle in the game against St. Louis Park. Head coach Ed Whiting praised the team's development and cohesion, noting that despite the pressure of being defending champions, they are focused on the present season. The Cavaliers have a challenging schedule ahead, including a highly anticipated rematch against Sioux Falls Washington on April 23, which will further test their skills and determination as they aim for another successful postseason.
