During a recent meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, actor and politician Kamal Haasan presented a proposal for a state-run OTT streaming platform dedicated to Tamil films, documentaries, and independent cinema. This initiative aims to provide affordable access to Tamil cinema while addressing the challenges posed by private streaming services and declining theatrical revenues. Haasan emphasized the importance of government support for the film industry, which he described as a vital part of Tamil Nadu's cultural identity and a source of livelihood for many families.

In addition to the OTT platform, Haasan outlined other key demands, including the abolition of the 4% local body entertainment tax and the establishment of an anti-piracy enforcement wing within the Tamil Nadu Police Cyber Crime Department. He also proposed allowing theatres to run five shows a day and suggested an eight-week mandatory gap between theatrical and OTT releases to protect theatre owners and distributors. Haasan's meeting with Vijay marks a significant moment in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, where cinema and politics have historically intertwined.
