Heidi Gardner and William H. Macy are set to star in the upcoming indie dramedy 'The Swimming Lesson', directed by Casey Twenter. Production is slated to begin this summer in Gardner's hometown of Kansas City. The film tells the story of Tay, portrayed by Gardner, a single mother who returns to her childhood home to engage in a custody battle for her son Albee, an autistic child who loves the ocean but fears swimming. Macy will play Leonard, Tay's foul-mouthed father, whose tough demeanor belies his loyalty and affection for his family. This project marks Twenter's directorial debut, having previously collaborated with Jeff Robison on the screenplay for 'Rudderless', which premiered at Sundance. Twenter expressed confidence in Gardner's ability to convey the humor and heartbreak of the story, while Gardner shared her excitement about the film's blend of comedy and authenticity. The film is being produced by several companies, including KP's Remain and Kindling Productions, with Mark Williams as director of photography and Mateo Messina composing the music.
