On Tuesday night, a gang of criminals stole ₹27 lakh (approximately $32,500 USD) from an automated teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) in East Champaran, Bihar. The theft occurred at a kiosk under the Raghunathpur police station area, where the criminals used gas cutters to break open the machine. According to Dhananjay Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO), four individuals were involved in the theft. Following the incident, Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat suspended the entire patrolling party on duty at the time, citing negligence in preventing the crime. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to track down the culprits, and police are currently examining CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence. The bank's alarm system was reportedly non-functional, which contributed to the lack of timely police response.
