A tragic fire at a bed-and-breakfast in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, claimed the lives of at least 21 people, including 17 foreign nationals. Following this incident, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood convened a high-level meeting with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, announcing a magisterial inquiry to investigate the causes of the fire. Preliminary findings suggest serious safety violations, including unauthorized expansions and sealed windows that hindered escape during the blaze. The property was reportedly operating beyond its licensed capacity, with inadequate fire safety measures. In response, Sood ordered immediate inspections of all guest houses operating under the Bed & Breakfast scheme. A citywide fire safety enforcement campaign will commence to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Additionally, the Delhi Police issued a Lookout Circular for Lovkesh Bajaj, co-owner of the establishment, as investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fire.
