The Telangana government has unveiled the results of its Socio-Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste (SEEEPC) Survey, which covers a population of 35.5 million. The survey indicates that Backward Classes (BCs), including BC Muslims, constitute 56.33% of the population, with BCs (excluding Muslims) at 46.25% and BC Muslims at 10.08%. Scheduled Castes (SCs) account for 17.43%, while Scheduled Tribes (STs) represent 10.45%. The data shows that the Madiga caste is the largest at 10.3%, followed by Mudiraj at 7.4% and Lambadis/Banjaras at 6.8%. The survey highlights significant socio-economic disparities among various castes, with some BC groups achieving parity with Other Castes (OCs). The findings are expected to influence future welfare policies and reservation frameworks, with BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar advocating for a nationwide implementation of similar surveys to promote social justice.
